The repairs we do every day — and what each usually costs

Dead outlets & switches

Failed devices, loose backstab connections, hidden tripped GFCIs. $120–$300. Outlet service →

Tripping & failed breakers

Diagnosed for cause — overload, fault, or worn breaker — then fixed correctly. $150–$280. Breaker service →

Flickering & dimming lights

From a loose fixture connection to a service neutral issue — the pattern tells us where to look.

Fixture & fan repairs

Dead fixtures, wobbling fans, failed ballasts and drivers, broken pull chains and switches. $150–$400.

Damaged wiring

Nail strikes, rodent damage, water-damaged runs, failed splices — located, repaired, and made code-compliant. $200–$600.

GFCI that won't reset

Real ground fault vs. worn device — tested, not guessed. Often the answer to "half my outlets are dead."

Buzzing, warm plates & odors

Heat means a failing connection. Located with thermal imaging before it becomes a hazard.

Doorbell, intercom & low-voltage

Transformers, chimes, video doorbell wiring — the small stuff other electricians won't book.

Diagnosis-first — the repair philosophy in one paragraph

A repair that doesn't start with diagnosis is a guess with an invoice. Our process on every repair call: reproduce and map the symptom, isolate the fault with actual testing (voltage, continuity, load, thermal where heat's involved), then quote the specific repair in writing — before touching anything. The diagnosis fee applies toward the repair, so you never pay twice for one problem. When the fault won't perform on command — the breaker that trips once a week — we have the load-testing and monitoring approach for that too; it's the specialty of our troubleshooting service.

When a repair is actually a warning: an outlet that burned on deteriorated pre-war wiring, a breaker failing inside a recalled FPE panel, the third repair this year on the same aging circuit. When the diagnosis points past the symptom, we say so with evidence — readings, photos, the pattern — and quote both the repair and the real fix, so the choice is informed and yours. Honest triage is the product; see our guide to the warning signs.

03

Repair now or emergency now? The 30-second triage

Call emergency dispatch immediately (24/7, 1–3 hours): sparking from any outlet or the panel · burning smell or smoke · whole-home power loss with no ConEd outage · a breaker that won't stay reset · exposed live wiring · flooding near electrical equipment.

Book a repair visit (same-week, standard rates): single dead outlet or switch · one fixture out · minor flicker without smell · a breaker that tripped once and reset · doorbell and low-voltage issues · anything annoying but not active.

Genuinely unsure? Call and describe it — we'll tell you straight which it is, and we don't manufacture emergencies to charge after-hours rates.

Frequently asked questions

Most common repairs total $120–$600: outlets and switches $120–$300, breakers $150–$280, fixtures $150–$400, wiring damage $200–$600. Diagnosis is included, the repair is quoted in writing before work begins, and most repairs are completed the same visit.

Usually — our trucks carry the devices, breakers, and materials that cover the large majority of NYC repairs. When a special-order part is needed, we make the circuit safe, order it, and return; you're never left with an open hazard.

Because the part was never the product. You're paying for correct diagnosis (so it's the right part), code-compliant installation, the licensed accountability behind it, and the visit itself. A $12 breaker installed wrong — or installed in answer to the wrong diagnosis — costs far more eventually.

Constantly — improper splices, backstabbed connections, oversized breakers, junction boxes buried in walls. We correct it to code and document what we found, which matters for insurance and resale.

The diagnostic visit starts at $150 and applies in full toward the repair. If you decline the repair, you keep the written diagnosis — useful for landlord disputes, insurance, or comparison quotes.

Yes — storefronts, offices, and restaurants, including after-hours repair scheduling so your business doesn't close for a fix. Larger commercial scopes route to our commercial electrical service.

What our customers say

★★★★★

"Outlet died, then two more on the same wall. They found a failed backstab connection feeding the run, repaired it properly, and checked every downstream outlet — all in ninety minutes, exactly at the quoted price."

Theo M. — Bay Ridge, Brooklyn

★★★★★

"Our 'simple fixture repair' turned out to be heat-damaged wiring above the kitchen light. They showed me the thermal image, repaired the run to code, and didn't upsell a thing beyond what the photos justified."

Anita R. — Pelham Bay, Bronx

★★★★★

"Third electrician we called about lights flickering through half the apartment — first one to actually find it: a deteriorating neutral at the panel. Diagnosed, quoted, fixed, same afternoon."

Will & Dana C. — Hell's Kitchen, Manhattan
